Mobile Language Learning on the iPad

The iPad continues its infiltration topping two million iPads sold in less than 60 days since its launch on April 3. Developers are doing their part, with over 5,000 new apps for the iPad already created. This week, Hello-Hello, a language learning company, announced the launch of complete language courses for French, German, Italian and Portuguese. The courses were developed in collaboration with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL).

Hello-Hello language Apps store the entire course content locally on the iPad device itself and requires no network connection (such as Wi-Fi or 3G) to work. The courses follow ACTFL’s research-based methodology to teach languages; each language course includes 30 conversational lessons based on realistic situations and are supplemented with hundreds of flashcards containing words and sentences for vocabulary building.

The launch this week is a follow up to a Spanish app that was released in April as part of the grand opening of the iPad App Store. According to the company, Hello-Hello Spanish was featured as one of the Apple’s staff favorites and achieved the number two position in the Education category shortly after the launch of the iPad.

Hello-Hello also offers a free language learning Web site, combined with social networking, which launched in August.
