Messaging Technology and Trends

This is the first year that we at Messaging News have not experienced the crush to publish the magazine in time for the traditionally early-February RSA show. To help prepare for the upcoming RSA Conference 2008, which will take place April 7–11 at Moscone Center in San Francisco, we asked industry analysts to comment on security trends for 2008. Don’t miss Prep for RSA: Analysts Offer Messaging Technology and Trends. It is always interesting to ask industry experts for thoughts on how this year will be remembered. We share more thoughts in our feature story, Messaging Predictions for 2008.

Making investments in technology requires careful consideration. In this issue, our cover story explores a range of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 outsourcing choices—from outsourcing services for on-premise Exchange, to complete outsourcing, to a drop-in alternative to Exchange. There are so many options, that space constraints allow us to just scratch the surface with At Your Service: Hosted Exchange 2007. We continue to offer more thoughts on acquiring technology in the feature story: Investing in Collaboration Tools, where Michael Sampson provides readers with four key points to contemplate.

Over the course of the last few years, retention of email records has taken on a whole new meaning. Compliance requirements have made a business requirement out of email monitoring. The All-Knowing, All-Seeing Eye explores today’s email monitoring policies, along with report highlights of the 2007 Electronic Monitoring and Surveillance Survey. It might have you thinking twice before clicking the send button at work!

As always, good reading and hope to see you at RSA.
