More About Archiving
There have been a number of announcements about email archiving recently. Rather than develop “retention policies” that justify disposal of old mail, the trend is towards keeping everything, forever. It seems very likely that the market will both grow significantly, and consolidate, in 2006. As with anti-spam and anti-virus services, there is an open question for most customers of whether to buy an appliance, or subscribe to a service. Among the recent announcements:
MessageSolution Inc. just announced a free six month trial for its email and instant message archiving service.
Hyland Software released OnBase 5.0, an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) system that now has email archiving built in. OnBase works with Microsoft’s Exchange Journaling functionality to capture and store email.
Gamma Enterprise Technologies, an SAP data management company, announced its new ArchiveBridge software has been optimized to work with Symantec’s VERITAS Enterprise Vault. ArchiveBridge lets SAP users archive and retrieve both SAP data and associated business documents (e.g. scanned images, text, MS Word, and .PDF files.)
