CSI Stick grabs data from cell phones: CNET News covers the release of Paraben Cellular Seizure Investigation (CSI) Stick, which illustrates the ease with which sensitive data can be removed from cell phones. The device self contained and can plug into a number of phones (currently only Motorola and Samsung varieties) and rapidly make a copy of the entire contents of the storage for law enforcement use.
Slacker Uprising BitTorrent Takedown Sent to DNS Provider: TorrentFreak covers the simultaneous release Michael Moore’s new film “Slacker Uprising” to DVD, web streaming, and the Bit Torrent peer-to-peer network. The distributors attempted to limit the release to the US and Canada, which demonstrated a clear a lack of understanding of the technical implications of the online release. The limitations quickly became ineffective, which was a surprise to apparently no one other than the movie’s distributors. To add insult to injury, the film’s lawyers attempted to issue a takedown request to the DNS provider of the Bit Torrent tracker hosting the movie torrent file, even though they were in Canada and could have had effectively no influence on the spread of the movie as they were not the hosting provider.
