Microsoft plus Yahoo! Strategic Assets in Email: Tim O’Reilly writes about the implications of a combined Microsoft/Yahoo email market and reiterates that he thinks building a new generation of address books that integrate social networking could be a major competitive advantage.

Google Code Blog: URLs are People, Too: Google announced their Social Graph API which combines a series of existing standards, protocols, and technologies into a new web service that will interconnect disparate social networks. Many of the standards such as XFN and FOAF have not seen large scale end user adoption and it will be interesting to see of the new Social Graph API causes an increase in use.

A Short History of the GNU Privacy Guard: GnuPG is a widely used open source OpenPGP compliant encryption package that provides PGP compatible support that is widely used on many platforms. For the software’s 10th anniversary, Werner Koch the author GnuPG wrote a retrospective that is worth reading.
