TechEd Roundup

June 16th, 2006

Many of the usual suspects timed announcements to match TechEd, held in Boston this week. Among the more notable developments were:

The beta for Exchange Server 2007 will be out in July, with the final version due out late this year or early next (more likely!). Closer integration with Windows Mobile, improved security, new administrative tools, and improved collaborative calendaring are some of the features Microsoft is pushing.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server’s LOBi (line-of-business interoperability) will tie Office applications more closely to SharePoint.
Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0, a collection of financial, customer relationship and supply chain management software for enterprise resource planning (ERP) that works closely with Office, as well as software from Oracle and SAP, and is built on SharePoint Server.
DataViz, Inc. announced RoadSync support Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition devices, starting with the HP iPAQ hw6500 series and Samsung i700 series.

Several announcements focused on Active Directory.

Quest Software Inc. launched the Quest Management Console for Active Directory, as well as new versions of existing products for user activity tracking and change control, recovery, Group Policy management and password management.
Configuresoft announced a preview of ECM (Enterprise Configuration Manager) for Microsoft(R) Active Directory(R), which helps companies build compliance solutions using ActiveDirectory.
