Skype announced a new service today, “Skypecast,” that will support free audio conferences for up to 100 participants. In addition to supporting large user groups that are mostly closed, Skype will also make it easy for people to publish announcements of upcoming conference calls, and is adding social networking features that make it possible for people to connect based on shared interests. Last week, the company released version 2.5 of its software, which now supports text messaging to mobile phones, and closer integration with Microsoft Outlook. The company says it now serves over 100 million registered users.
