Hotmail co-founder Sabeer Bhatia’s company, InstaColl, is offering a new document sharing and collaboration service for Windows and Office users.
Like Hotmail, the service is free to end users. Bhatia says he is hoping to eventually attract 40 percent of the web conferencing market, and that the company currently has 20 corporate and 50,000 individual users. Getting 40 percent of the conferencing market, without support for Mac OS X or Linux, is going to be hard: there’s a user of one of those systems in every crowd, and other vendors, such as Webex do support these alternative platforms. Still, the Bangalore-based company has mapped out an innovative approach to content management, and its partnership with Sun may help it move beyond its current PC-only approach.
