FTC Calls Upon Companies to Adopt "Do Not Track"

This week the Federal Trade Commission published what some call a landmark report, which offers best practices for businesses to protect the privacy of consumers. The commission’s “Protecting Consumer Privacy in an Era of Rapid Change” (pdf) report encourages companies to give consumers greater control over the collection and use of personal data before legislation requires them to do it.
