Editor's Note
I Get the Message!
One of my favorite aspects as editor of Messaging News is the opportunity to spend time with the variety of messaging vendors and readers of the magazine. In April, I attended the Authentication & Online Trust Summit 2007 in Boston. In early May I attended WorldSecure 2007 in San Diego, Tumbleweed Communication's annual worldwide user conference. As we go to press, I am looking forward to INBOX to be held in San Jose later in May. These outings allow me to see beyond the immediate deadlines, and talk with folks about the issues of the day. I hope that our magazine is reflective of those issues, and you find valuable content in these pages. We always enjoy hearing from you-via online or at events such as these.
In this issue, we present our first collaboration topic to make the cover, in Calendaring: Why Isn't It Just Like Email? We explore the many emerging calendaring options available. If you are still using email to do your calendaring, take a read of Michael Sampson's story. We also present another collaboration topic, Social Bookmarking in this issue.
Messaging today goes way beyond email. Two of our feature stories explore where we are in the adoption of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and instant messaging. In The Promise of SIP we review some of the challenges and benefits of this new protocol. IM in Today's Enterprise provides a glimpse into what issues are important to be aware of as enterprise IT organizations continue to wrestle with IM management.
Our interested in the area of policy in messaging continues. In Employer, Protect Thyself we are reminded of the need for clear corporate acceptable use policies for employees.
In an attempt to keep our Messaging News readers as up-to-date as possible, we are pleased to offer David Daniels personal perspective on the announcement of the E-mail Measurement Accuracy Coalition, of which he is the new executive director. Read: What is the Measure of Success? for more. Also in this issue, we provide a quick update on email authentication in Industry Gathers to Fight Spam and Online Fraud.
Remember to let us know your messaging news and observations.
Regards,
