According to data compiled by a cloud security team from Druva, an enterprise endpoint backup provider, 92 percent of security breaches are actually avoidable.
After studying recent cloud security and data breaches the team concluded that:
- 42 percent of these incidents could have been prevented using DAC (Data Access Control).
- Source data encryption could have prevented another 28 percent of these compromises.
- Secure data backup could have prevented another 32 percent of the occurrences.
Druva’s researchers believe that U.S. businesses could have saved nearly $44 billion, not including lost productivity and time savings associated with recovering from a data breach.
“If we take into account that 70 percent of security incidents occur because of an end-user error (lost portable device, unintended disclosure, physical loss, etc), it’s increasingly important to insure ourselves with better technology,” notes a Druva blogger. “After all, end-users are human, and technology like backup, data loss prevention, and encryption can protect us from being ourselves.”
